"Peace is more than the absence of war," delivers Prince on his heartfelt human rights offering, "Baltimore." The record was recorded live at his Paisley Park studios in Minnesota while the accompanying music video was shot during the "Rally 4 Peace" concert in Baltimore, MD (May 10).
Featuring vocals from newcomer Eryn Allen Kane, the song infuses a warm, feel-good vibe to balance the quotes from newspapers about peaceful demonstrations in the clip.
"Baltimore" arrived during the civil unrest after the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray while in police custody.
The "Rally 4 Peace" concert is "meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S."
A portion of the song's proceeds will go to youth charities in Baltimore.
