Andra Day follows up the release of her brand new doo-wop single, "Forever Mine," with a music video directed by legendary director Spike Lee. In the clip, the big, brassy voice singer-songwriter works in a box in a bar; she reads, sings and entertains watching drinkers.
"The video's concept is [about] me," Andra explains. "The box represents my sanctuary. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is pray, confess and be still, so that box [is] that space where all of my creativity comes to me. Then I see people and life through that space." Andra adds, from Spike, "I've learned that simplicity is a very powerful thing. You don't need much to convey a message."
Andra captured the attention of millions following the release of several cover videos on Youtube as well as the fresh, fun single "Coolin' in the Streets," featuring Ziggy Marley, for Bud Light Lime's campaign.
"Forever Mine" will appear on Andra's upcoming debut album, Cheers to the Fall, out August 28, 2015 on Buskin and Warner Bros Records. The set features Stevie Wonder, who actually discovered Andra and introduced her to the founders of Buskin Entertainment as well as producers such as Raphael Saadiq and ?uest Love.
"Cheers to the Fall is based on a true story," says Andra. "It's a biography told in the form of soul music. The themes within the story are truth, fearlessness, vulnerability, forgiveness, and love."
