After releasing his debut album Speechless last year, R&B crooner Sebastian Mikael puts out a visual for a new song called “Money.”
“The song is about a stripper grinding who’s way smarter than she looks,” he tells Boombox. “She plays people for money. She’s looking for a come-up, so she does whatever for the money, but she’s gonna go beyond what everybody thinks. Being a stripper is just the phase she’s in now,” Mikael adds.
The video could have went the expected route; clips of exotic dancers swinging around poles, slo-mo twerking, etc., but director John Greene and Mikael took a different approach. A scantily clad woman appears only a few times on the clip, while images of Mikael intermixed with winterscapes takes precedence.
“Money” by Sebastian Mikael is a soulful R&B track that delves into the complexities of wealth, desire, and personal values. Set against a backdrop of smooth melodies and laid-back production, the song captivates listeners with its introspective lyricism and emotive vocals.
Sebastian Mikael’s velvety voice exudes sincerity and authenticity as he navigates themes of materialism and inner conflict. His heartfelt lyricism explores the allure of money and the toll it can take on relationships and personal fulfillment.
The chorus of “Money” serves as a poignant refrain, echoing the sentiment of grappling with the pursuit of wealth and the sacrifices it entails. Each note is infused with emotion, capturing the struggle to reconcile the desire for financial success with the need for genuine connection and happiness.
With its soul-stirring melodies and thought-provoking lyricism, “Money” is more than just a song; it’s a powerful meditation on the human condition and the pursuit of happiness. It invites listeners to reflect on their own values and priorities, reminding them that true wealth lies not in material possessions, but in the richness of relationships and personal fulfillment.
