Just like Pharrell, John Legend is concerned the “Blurred Lines” verdict will put a damper on future creativity.
Legend told the Associated Press on Saturday (March 21) that he personally thinks “Blurred Lines” sounds like Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up." "I said that when I first heard it, too,” he said.
Be he doesn’t agree with the jury’s decision Pharrell and Robin Thicke copied Gaye’s song."You have to be careful when it comes to copyrights, whether just sounding like or feeling like something is enough to say you violated their copyrights," he said."Because there's a lot of music out there, and there's a lot of things that feel like other things that are influenced by other things. And you don't want to get into that thing where all of us are suing each other all the time because this and that song feels like another song. I’m a little concerned that this verdict might be a slippery slope."
Pharrell and Robin Thicke were ordered to $7.4 million worth of royalties to the late Marvin Gaye's family.
