Oh, the essence…Brooklyn artist Shochan (Sho Ishikura) is on to something with this…
Utilizing the popular piano riff from the Youtube video of Smoke E. Digglera and the late Static Major’s studio jam session of “If You Scared” (popularly used in Drake’s “Look What You've Done”), the singer/producer/songwriter smoothly croons about giving his girl “the essence.”
Towards the end, there’s a dope electric guitar solo as songstress Karina Pasian hops on the track for some added vocals (and I’m not sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s tickling the ivories on this one, too).
“The Essence” is off of Shochan's debut EP which he's releasing on February 28th for a free download on his website. The EP is a prerequisite to his full-length album scheduled for release in June 2015.
“The Essence” by Shochan featuring Karina Pasian is a soulful fusion of R&B and hip-hop that captivates listeners with its smooth melodies and heartfelt lyricism. Shochan’s dynamic flow complements Pasian’s velvety vocals, creating a harmonious blend that evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing.
Lyrically, “The Essence” delves into themes of love, authenticity, and self-discovery. Shochan and Pasian navigate the complexities of relationships, exploring the essence of true connection and the importance of staying true to oneself. Their introspective lyrics resonate with listeners, inviting them to reflect on their own experiences of love and identity.
Musically, the track is characterized by its laid-back groove, soulful instrumentation, and infectious hooks, which create a captivating atmosphere that draws listeners in from the first note. Shochan’s smooth delivery and Pasian’s emotive vocals add depth and texture to the song, infusing it with a sense of warmth and intimacy.
“The Essence” is more than just a song; it’s a heartfelt expression of love and authenticity that resonates with listeners on a deeply personal level. Shochan and Karina Pasian’s collaborative effort makes the track a standout in both of their discographies, leaving listeners moved by its sincerity and emotional depth.
