You know Musiq Soulchild’s soul ballads like “Love,” “Dontchange,” and “Sobeautiful”? How about those up-tempo grooves like “Just Friends” and “B.U.D.D.Y” that had you feeling like cutting a rug on the dance floor? Well, you can kiss them goodbye.
Musiq Soulchild now goes by The Husel, his rap alter ego. Even though he can currently be heard on the smooth duet “Give It To You” with Meelah, Musiq (I’m sorry, The Husel) is pushing full steam ahead with new rap music, his debut project as such being the mixtape below.
He recently sat down with MadameNoire to expliain the reason for this drastic change: “Every time I turn on the radio, I hear this sound. It’s challenging to hear that sound [R&B] on the radio right now, for whatever reason. R&B is struggling right now. And I’m the kind of person to entertain people with what they’re saying entertains them, and right now this sound is what’s entertaining them."
So basically, he’s saying “give the masses what they want!” As he leaves his loyal fan base in the dust, a move like this could be disasterous for his career. Is Musiq just jumping on the bandwagon for a dollar?
Take a listen to his project above and sound off, roomies!
