Fans of "Glee" will have to wait a little bit longer for season five.
According to FOX, season five will now premiere late September as producers and cast deal with the loss of late cast member, Cory Monteith, who portrayed Finn.
"In light of the tragic passing of beloved ‘Glee’ cast member Cory Monteith, the series’ executive producers, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company have jointly decided to delay the start of production of ‘Glee’ until early August,” read a statement released Friday.
As previously reported, Cory Monteith had filmed scenes for "Glee" earlier this year and it is unclear what producers will do with that footage. It is also unclear how they will bid farewell to his beloved character, Finn Hudson.
"Glee" is due to return September 26 on FOX.
Fans of the hit show Glee were dealt a devastating blow last month with the sudden death of Cory Monteith. The actor, who played Finn Hudson on the series, passed away in his hotel room from an accidental drug overdose. As fans mourned and paid tribute to Monteith’s life and talent, Fox announced that production of season 5 has been delayed due to the tragic news.
The fifth installment of Glee was supposed to begin filming this week in Los Angeles, but for now all plans have been put on hold as cast members try to cope with their loss. Creator Ryan Murphy said “the entire Glee family – actors, crew and producers – are deeply saddened by this tragedy” and that they had no other option than to delay filming until further notice. It is unknown at this time when production will resume or if there will be any changes made to storylines due to Monteith’s passing.
For many fans, it feels like a part of Glee has gone forever without Monteith around; however, everyone involved with the show remains optimistic about continuing its success into another successful season. With so much uncertainty surrounding Season 5 it’s hard not to wonder what’s next for the beloved program. Will we ever see Finn again? How will the writers address his absence? We’ll just have wait and see how things unfold once production resumes.
Overview Of The Show
Glee is a popular musical comedy-drama series that follows the lives of high school students at William McKinley High School in Ohio. The show has become incredibly successful and beloved by fans worldwide since it first aired in 2009. It features an ensemble cast full of diverse characters who often perform songs from various genres, including pop, rock, R&B, hip hop, and country music.
The fifth season was set to begin airing on September 19th 2013 when tragedy struck with the sudden death of one of its stars Cory Monteith on July 13th 2013. This devastating event forced Fox network to delay production indefinitely while they figured out how best to proceed without their star player.
In light of this tragic loss, the producers decided not to replace Monteith’s character Finn Hudson but instead continue his story through other characters reminiscing about him or having conversations about what he meant to them throughout the rest of the show’s run. The fifth season eventually began airing in January 2014 with two tribute episodes dedicated to Cory Monteith’s memory which included themes around grief and healing as well as performances from his former co-stars honoring him.
Impact Of Actor’s Death
The death of Cory Monteith had a profound impact on the Glee cast and crew as well as fans around the world. It was clear that not only did they lose a talented actor, but also a beloved friend. The shock of his death caused an immediate delay in production and left everyone wondering how to continue with the show without him.
In order to honor Cory’s memory, producers decided against replacing Finn Hudson’s character but instead have other characters remember him throughout the rest of the series run. This decision resonated deeply with viewers who felt comforted knowing he would still remain part of the show despite no longer being physically present. As such, two special tribute episodes were created which featured songs from some of his favorite artists along with heartfelt stories about what it meant to be apart of this incredible journey together.
Though there is nothing that can fill the hole left by his passing, these special moments served as a way for us all to come together in mourning while celebrating his life and legacy at the same time. His presence will always remain cherished by those he touched through his work and friendship over so many years.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it’s clear that the death of Cory Monteith has had a major impact on the show Glee and its fans. The loss of such an influential actor has forced the creators to delay production for season 5 in order to properly honor him. It is heartbreaking to think about what could have been if he were still alive today.
The show will definitely feel different without Cory around but his spirit will remain with us through all the wonderful performances he gave as Finn Hudson. His passion for acting was evident in every scene and we can only hope that the remaining cast members can carry on his legacy. We can also take comfort in knowing that this unfortunate event has brought together so many people who share their love and support for both Glee and Cory Monteith during this difficult time.
Cory’s memory lives on forever in our hearts and minds, while Glee continues to bring joy into our homes each week despite tragedy striking at its core. Hopefully season 5 will be just as successful as past seasons when it finally debuts later this year.
