Mary J. Blige's artist Starshell releases the nostalgic ballad "My Star," an emotional record about the lost of a loved one. Following up her buzzing club offerings "Birthday Girl" and "SuperLuva," the new record is a beautifully written piano gift that Starshell wants to share to uplift people, instead of making them sad.
"My Star" was written about Starshell's elder sister Starchelle, who committed suicide when the singer was 12 years old. "I pour my emotion into my art. And each song doesn’t have to correlate to the tragedy, but it does have to bring light," says Starchell.
Starshell's forthcoming debut album will arrive on Mary J. Blige's Matriarch/Interscope Records later this year.
