As Miguel's stock continues to rise, more noteworthy engagements continue to trundle his way. The R&B heartthrob, who was selected as one of TIME Magazine's most influential people in the world, has been tapped to perform at the upcoming TIME 100 gala at New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center.
TIME recruited Critic Douglas Wolk to write Miguel's entry for the list: “The survival of the black pop tradition isn’t just a matter of preserving its history — although Miguel does that too: the soul seducer’s Grammy-winning hit single “Adorn” ingeniously evokes Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” and “Let’s Get It On.” What has nourished that tradition over the past 70 years, though — what has kept it not just alive but thriving — is what makes Miguel’s recent music so special: constant innovation, formal daring, unexpected sources of inspiration, and emotional directness.”
Celebrating the TIME 100, an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, this year's guest include Late night host Jimmy Fallon, actor Daniel Day-Lewis, musician Frank Ocean, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer and Lena Dunham, creator of the HBO hitGirls.
Also taking stage during the event will be pop star Christina Aguilera.
Music mogul Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter graces one of the magazine's seven covers.
