"Betty & Coretta," the made for television movie centered around the lives of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King, has been given a premiere date. Lifetime broke the news confirming the series will premiere in February.
Starring Angela Bassett as Coretta Scott King and Mary J. Blige as Dr. Betty Shabazz, "Betty & Coretta" tells the dual "real-life stories" of both women following the tragic assassinations of their husbands (Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X).
Also starring Malik Yoba (King) and Lindsay Owen Pierre (Malcolm X), "Betty & Coretta" kicks off Lifetime's celebration of Black History Month.
"Focusing on the extraordinary women behind the two men who would change history, Betty & Coretta tells the similar true stories of Coretta Scott King (Bassett), wife of Dr. Martin Luther King (Yoba) and Dr. Betty Shabazz (Blige), wife of Malcolm X (Pierre). When their husbands were tragically assassinated, these two women not only inherited the mantle of the civil rights movement in America, each also found herself to be a single mother who had to find a way to raise and support her children with no husband or father, resulting in a relationship like no other that spanned more than three decades," reports Lifetime.
"Betty & Coretta" premieres Saturday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
