Alicia Keys has recently debuted her latest music video for “Brand New Me.”
The video begins with Alicia Keys sitting at piano, sporting a new do,’ long curly locks. A man (presuming a manager figure) comes up and reaches to touch her hair in approvement saying “it looks nice” as Keys pulls away and blankly says “thanks.” She then sits somber at the piano and begins to play her piece for “Brand New Me.”
Throughout the video she walks around backstage, past the lights and props, singing strongly about finding herself and changing amidst disapproval, as she sings, “I had to grab my heart back, I know something had to change, thought that you’d be happy I found the one thing I need, why you mad? It’s just a brand new kind of me.”
The more she sings and comes to the realization that she is perfectly content with her change, despite anyone’s reaction, the singer-songwriter gets more passionate and emotional, leading her to pulls off her wig in front of a mirror, revealing her recent short bob style. She then walks back to the piano, sits, and sings directly in front of the man from the beginning of the video as the words “The Journey Continues” come across the screen.
“Brand New Me” was co-written by Keys and Scottish singer Emeli Sandé and is the second official single off Keys’ fifth album Girl on Fire.
