Trey Songz: It's Almost Impossible To Achieve Mainstream Success with R&B?Sun, Dec 02, 2012 News, R&B NewsComments
According to Songz, it is hard to compete with what is currently playing on radio stations across the country.
"It's almost impossible to achieve mainstream success as an R&B artist these days," Songz shared before a performance in Chicago earlier this week. "Radio is being dominated by records that are 120 beats per minute. R&B is about groove and soul."
That said, Songz hesitates to consider himself one that has achieved mainstream success, despite a growing fan-base and a number of hits like "Simply Amazing." Even though he has not reached "the mainstream," Songz is not giving up, realizing the fact that there has been growth over time.
"I take pride in working very hard. You need to understand that hard work doesn't instantly pay off. My career grew gradually and taught me a lesson every step of the way," says Songz.
In related news, Trey Songz will be starring in the soon to be released movie "Texas Chainsaw 3D," which opens January 4. He is also on tour in support of "Chapter V," his fifth studio album.
