As January sits in the near future, and Dawn Richard’s first solo album Goldenheart awaits within the first month of the year, Richard films the visual to accompany the compilation’s first single ’86.’ More like a short film, photos were released of the shoot and it looks freakin’ epic, to say the least. Directed by Eugene Lee Yang, the Danity Kane inspired theme seems to be medieval in nature with knights in armor, which fits the theme of her album.
“’86 is a homage to my past,” says Dawn. “Everyone wants to look at the Danity Kane thing as a negative but it’s a positive. The girls have been and continue to be a guiding force in my journey throughout this music business.”
As far as her forthcoming album Goldenheart, Dawn revealed that it is the journey of a message and passion, much like Joan of Arc’s life. “You look at the story of Joan of Arc and what she was…the story of her having a message that she felt she needed to carry through, that she went about it by any means necessary…To me, that’s the story of passion,” she told Singersroom. “That’s exactly what this message is with this album, from the lyrical content, to the visual, to the dance artistry of it all.”
In addition to the new photos, Dawn is readying a Christmas EP, a precursor to her forthcoming album Goldenheart.
