Usher is getting a special chair. The R&B veteran and Diamond-selling artist has just signed on to coach and judge on NBC's hit reality singing competition "The Voice."
Set to make his debut during the Spring 2013 season, Usher will replace outgoing judge Christina Aguilera and will be joined by fellow chart-topper Shakira.
Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will be leaving the show temporarily to pursue efforts including music and touring.
"We are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to 'The Voice,'" NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and CeeLo. The participants on our show benefit from our coaches’ expertise and their continued success in the music business allows for significant new contributions to the contestants when they return.”
Usher joins John Legend, Kelly Rowland, Jason Derulo, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban in taking on this type of role.
A premiere date has not yet been set for "The Voice" season four, but it is expected to return around January-February of next year.
"The Voice" is currently airing Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
