Rihanna had a very eye opening interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday's episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter." On top of admitting the fact that she "still" loves Chris Brown, the Grammy Award winner told Oprah there was a connection between her relationship with her father and Brown.
"I was so angry with him. I was just angry about a lot of things from my childhood. I couldn't separate him from a father and bad husband. I witnessed a lot in my childhood. My family broke up because of his addiction," Rihanna says of her father. "I remember just one day thinking why can't I come to a place where I let someone in ?"
According to Rihanna, it was hard letting others, men in particular, love her because of her father. That also had an effect on her relationship with Chris Brown.
"Because I wasn't having a relationship with my father anymore, I wasn't able to connect with a man. The minute I was able to recognize that he was one of the best fathers in the world... all kinds of things started making sense," Rihanna told Oprah.
Looking back at the weeks and months following the attack in 2009, Rihanna says she had to forgive Brown in order to be at peace.
"I thought I hated Chris and I realized it was love that was tarnished," said Rihanna. "It was tainted. I realized that I had to forgive him because I cared about him still. The minute I let it go I started to feel better."
Rihanna appeared on "Oprah's Next Chapter" Sunday, August 19.
