Last night, rapper Nicki Minaj help shut down Times Square. The Young Money femcee teamed up with phone giant Nokia to create one of the biggest LED
displays ever seen to celebrate the launch of the Windows Phone-based
Nokia Lumia 900.
During the event, which saw tens of thousands of people filling Times Square, Nicki Minaj performed a medley of her hit songs. After her set, some of the world's leading visual artists turned the
prominent building into a living, breathing entity using cutting-edge
CGI technology with 60ft waves appearing to cascade down the building. Nine of Times Square's famous electronic screens showed the reaction from the event-goers.
"When Nokia came to me with the idea to make a building come
alive and to perform in Times Square in front of my fans to celebrate
the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 there was only ever one answer," says Minaj.
She adds: "Performing in my home town of NYC the same week as the release of my
new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is amazing and it really is a
dream come true."
The entire show was filmed as part of Minaj's new music video for the "Starships" remix.
