With such tremendous success on her sophomore LP ’21,’ fans would assume that Adele would want to continue riding on the wave and release more music to supply the massive demand. However, that’s not the case.
After sweeping the 2012 Grammy’s by winning in all six categories that she was nominated for, Adele revealed in an interview with Vogue that she wants to step away from the spotlight for a couple of years to write an album that is better than ’21.’
“I’m in it for the long run. I don’t want to be disposable. You’re only as good as your next record,” she explained. “I’m not scared of losing this. I won’t come out with new music until it’s better than ’21’. I’m not expecting to sell as many records, but I don’t want to release sh–. Also, I have nothing to write about! I’d be lying. And that would go against everything I’ve ended up building for myself. So, yeah, I will need at least three years to write a record.”
And though her music has largely been influenced by going through a tough break-up, Adele wants to go towards a different route and theme for her music in the future.
“I am never writing a breakup record again, by the way. I’m done with being a bitter witch,” she said.
Part of this may be also due to the fact that Adele is very much happy with her current boyfriend, Simon Konecki, as she praised him for helping her get through the recovery stage after her throat surgery.
“He’s wonderful,” Adele tells Vogue. “And he’s proud of me, but he don’t care about what I do or what other people think. He looks after me. I don’t think I would have gotten through the recovery for my surgery if it hadn’t been for him.”
As for future plans, Adele plans to step away “for four or five years” to focus on her love life. “If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy.”

Update: With the recent clean-up at the Grammy Awards, Adele has backpedaled on her plans for a 5 year hiatus. The interview with US Vogue was done prior to the Grammys but after winning six trophies, the “Rolling in The Deep” singer plans to head back to the studio.
“I’ve a few days off now, and then it’s the Brit Awards here at home and then I’m straight into the studio. BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!” the British star on her blog Tuesday.
