It was all glitz and glam backstage at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show held in New York City at the Lexington Armory. No less than fourteen trailers were stationed along 25th and 26th streets filled with walkie-talkied interns nailing down the last minute details. Inside the Armory, scattered everywhere, were about little mobs of dancers in various costumes each practicing different routines. The venue was decked out with risers that nearly reached the ceiling. Only Victoria’s Secret could put on a fashion show that has actual nosebleed seats. Every couple of minutes the sound crew tested by blasting a different song then moving on to the next. Hundreds of people milled about backstage as the models got ready and entertained the press. Most fashion shows last about ten minutes, but Victoria’s Secret is always a full production featuring performances, themes, live music and celebs walking the pink carpet.
The theme of this year’s show was Romantic Travel. “We came up with the idea of this girl who lands from outer space in Paris,” explained show stylist Charlotte Stockdale. “She gets on a train that comes to a halt in Pinkland, where pink girls get on and off. Then, there’s Tick-Tock Time; the wings in this section are based on clocks-there’s one modeled after a pocket watch with metallic feathers. And she ends up in this regal realm of princess-ness, where the wings have Swarovski jewels and peacock feathers.” This year’s fantasy bra is studded out with 150 karats of diamonds and can be yours for $3 million.
Jay Z and Kerry Hilson exchanged pleasantries front row. The Black Eyed Peas performed and Fergie looked incredibly toned in a green bustier gown. Sexy angel Selita Ebanks vamped it up in cheetah print stiletto booties before the show and one of the more fantastical costumes during the show. Chanel Iman modeled her satin VS robe while waiting for a makeup touch-up. The show will air on CBS on December 1st. —— By: Cynthia G. Caban
