Chris Brown was the big winner at Sunday’s American Music Awards. “I was shocked,” the 19-year-old crooner said backstage after taking the AMA’s coveted Artist of the Year Award. “I’m so thankful and grateful. I thought Coldplay should have won the award, but I’ll take it.” The R&B phenom, who also picked up an award for Favorite Male Artist in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories, faced stiff competition from Coldplay’s mega hit album “Viva La Vida.” Brown’s recent touring partner, Rihanna, who rocked a leather corset during a performance of “Rehab” Sunday, picked up both the pop/rock and soul/R&B category awards for Favorite Female Artist. “I just want to thank first and foremost all the fans that supported me from Day One,” Brown said upon accepting his first award.
