It was all about the three B’s at Thursday’s MTV’s Europe Music Awards…. Beyonce, Britney and Barack ! While performances and awards were celebrated at the highly anticipated show, Barack Obama’s win became just as important as Beyonce’s first major performance of “If I Were A Boy.” Paul McCartney, who received the Ultimate Legend Award, thanked American’s who voted for the President Elect. “I want to thank my mum and dad,” he said, going on to pay tribute to his bandmates in The Beatles, the people of Liverpool and Americans, “for voting in Senator Obama.” Backstage, McCartney said he had a song he thought the new U.S. leader would like for his wife, Michelle Obama â the Beatles ballad “Michelle.”McCartney was not the only one with Obama on the mind, Katy Perry, who hosted the show, said “maybe Europeans will love us again now” while 30 Seconds to Mars singer Jared Leto rocked an Obama shirt and urged the 10,000 strong crowd at Liverpool’s Echo Arena to yell “Congrats, Barack.” While Barack Obama earned much praise, Beyonce’s performance of “If I Were A Boy” (see below) became a highlight of the show which also featured a performance from Kanye West and Estelle. Rocking what appeared to be an armour clad dress, Beyonce went through a well received performance of her hit single, which is currently riding in the top 10. Britney Spears, who is reportedly close to teaming up with Justin Timberlake, picked up two awards at the show including ‘Act of 2008’ and Album of the Year for “Blackout”. Kanye West, Katy Perry and Pink also took home awards. Beyonce: “If I Were A Boy” Video: Click here to view photos from the MTV Europe Awards
