Hip Hop producer Hi-Tek has signed new R&B sensation Dion to Dr. Dre’s coveted Aftermath Records. Hi-Tek, Dr. Dre, Focus and Mike City will produce the debut CD due out later this year. Hi-Tek recently told Billboard Magazine the reason he signed Dion is because he feels like he’s a “New age Marvin Gaye with a natural talent and a soulful sound.” He commented, “Dion is a strong writer with a real vision of how he wants to project himself as an artist.” Hi-Tek added, “New singers have lost the raw soulful edge that we used to have with Bobby Womack and other artists…That’s what acts like Dion bring to the table.” Dion came to Dr. Dre’s attention through several songs submitted to him via Hi-Tek’s production deal with Aftermath. Upon hearing the songs, Dr. Dre invited Dion to make a special guest appearance on Game’s 2005 multi-platinum debut CD. Now he is officially welcoming Dion to Aftermath. “This is a dream come true,” says Dion. “I am ecstatic to be signed to Aftermath and it’s a blessing to work with legends such as Dr. Dre and Hi-Tek. I’ve been working with Hi-Tek for the past three years and we have crazy chemistry in the studio, I think most of that has to do with us both being from Cincinnati and being exposed to a variety of diverse music. Hi-Tek gives you a depth of music plus that magical knock that brings it all together. I believe there’s a reason I was signed to Aftermath, this moment for me is priceless.
